The biennial prize was created by the College of Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology. It considers “how projects integrate natural and built ecologies; create new public spaces; engage community members as agents of change; use local workers and materials; improve the lives of those in need; and more”. Dirk Denison, the juror for the award, stated that MCHAP strengthens a unique North/South axis that allows for cross-cultural learning in a time of global crisis and change.
