Leica has launched the Q2 Monochrom Reporter fixed lens camera, wrapped in Kevlar as promised last year when it released the standard edition Q2 Reporter.

Leica Q2 Monochrom Reporter edition

The Q2 Monochrom Reporter is identical to the original Q2 Reporter. It has a robust exterior and what Leica describes as a “discreet”, which allows photographers to work comfortably without being noticed. This camera has the Leica engraving on its top plate and the iconic red dot of the company removed.

The Monochrom version, like the Q2 Reporter standard, has a “body armor” of Kevlar. This body armor, which is exposed to UV rays over time will slowly match the dark green color of the metal finish on other parts of its body. Leica claims that the camera’s build decisions are designed to protect against water and dust.

Leica Q2 Reporter is a continuation of a long line of Leica cameras that were specifically made for reporting and photography. The camera’s rugged exterior is complemented by its unobtrusive appearance.

This camera has a full-frame black-and-white 47-megapixel sensor that can capture stills as well as 4K video. It also features an ISO range from 100 to 100,000. Leica Summilux 28mm F/1.7 ASPH is the fixed lens. It is composed of 11 elements, three of them being aspherical. The camera is a prime lens and has digital zoom at 28mm 35mm 50mm, 50mm, 75mm, and 75mm.

The Q2 Reporter’s standard autofocus system is identical and has a 49-area system. The camera can capture up to 10 frames per seconds. The electronic shutter can be used to fire the camera at a speed of 1/40,000 seconds with the mechanical shutter, and 1/2000 second with an electronic shutter. The flash can also sync at up to 1/5 seconds.

The Q2 Monochrom Reporter, as mentioned, can also capture video. This includes DCI 4K at 24 frames per seconds, UHD 4K with 24 frames per minute, and Full HD at 120 frames per sec.
